Got to play for 3 hours on game launch day, but killed my graphics card by overtaxing it during the separate 5 hour queue wait. Got back into game a week and a half later. Hence, was a week+ behind all my company team members. Not a great start, for sure. Mid fall 2021, I have to admit that my interest in New World had waned. Not that I did not have anything to do. I was not (and still am not) level 60. I was just tired of the bugs, bots and lack of transparency from AGS.
Played through the NOV PTR with no real interest, but when the December PTR notes and build became public, I was way more interested. Generally happy with the Dec update overall.
This feedback is focused on:
- End of year progress of New World
- Most favorite, least favorite, most wanted
- Winter Convergence Feedback
- Comment regarding the Team Update Video released on 12/17
The launch of New World was rocky. No denying that. Server Merges and Character transfers did not happen quickly enough. Some bugs that afflict everyone every game session are still around. But…the amount of updates, the new content, the better transparency in general…kudos all around. After watching the Team Update Video, it clear that the AGS team has learned a lot of new things since the game went live. I think we all forget the game was around for 100’s of hours from 2018-2021, but it was not a LIVE world the way it is now. Ton of new issues to deal with now that the game has launched. Personally am looking forward to 2022 in New World, and think the AGS team are on the right track.
Favorite: Favorite gameplay item from 2021 - The Gleamite Meteor Showers. The visuals, the audio, just all around effing amazing. I really do hope we see more of this kind of thing.
Least Favorite: Least favorite gameplay item from 2021 - Luck. Fucking luck. Half the time is does not work. Or is it? Please, consider a masssive overhaul on the luck systems. One massive helpful thing would be to improve the language we have on luck items, and make the usage of luck items show up on a the HUD that makes it clear what our luck totals are, depending on factors including food buffs, gear buffs, tool buffs and house buffs.
And, related to luck - Most wanted for 2022 - A new tab on our character screen when we hit K. That shows a meaningful summary of all of our game stats in one place, including attribute buffs, gear perks, tool perks, misc perk buffs, damage and defense, luck stats, house trophy perks, etc. It should update dynamically.
The Winter Convergence Event is more or less amazing. I was very fearful the decorations would be awful, but in fact, the designs were perfect for the aesthetic that is New World. The snow is great, though I was bummed that we did not have it in patches everywhere. Gleamite Meteor Showers, just amazing. So much I spent maybe a total of 5 hours trying to get a good video recording of one of those. Finally did it on 12/16 and uploaded to Youtube. The quest lines are decent once they progress to the actual battle quests, though I am bummed that the last 2-3 require a group. Also, I keep hearing that you have to be level 60 to finish the quest line. Seriously? That is messed up. These seasonal events should be available to all levels. Just give the level 60 folks some extra rewards. Question: Would love to know if any server decided to let eternal winter come. Finally, feel like the entire event was well thought out and designed. I’d really like to point especially to the team who designed the town decorations, town trees, the Winter towns, and the music in the Winter towns.
Finally, the 1.5 hour long Team Update Video - That was great. More of these please! Once a quarter would be great! And fact, most successful games have some kind of thing like this they publish periodically. The ESO team does live ones, which I think is overkill personally, not asking asking for that level of effort.
