Right now, there’s no counter-play for 80% of the garbage in this game. And if there is a counter-play? What you can do is EXTREMELY Limiting, or counter intuitive, or you just flat out remove like you did with the life staff bubble during beta, that offers projectile hate.
Counter-play isn’t some bs thing that was made up. It’s a real thing. It allows players to be more skillful, It actually improve the experience! You can’t keep doing the wrong type of buffs or nerfs, because let me tell you. Dodging while rooted is so pointlessly stupid, because it doesn’t address the actual concern of people who want to get out of root.
I don’t know why you have your obsession with crowd control making you helpless, or why you’re so adamant about making the player unable to do anything about it, but adding diminishing return, or letting people dodge during roots is the wrong way to go about this. Anyone who thinks otherwise clearly never played other mmos, where you can break free of crowd control, to REGAIN CONTROL And have buffs that allow you to be immune to it.
When you keep doing these blanket nerfs without taking the considering that countering the player’s the ability to do that certain thing is a far better nerf? You’re creating an environment where players will be frustratingly helpless, because they can’t do anything. It not fun for anyone other than pre made company groups who abuses weapons like greataxe-hammer at the detriment of others.
With regards to roots it varies. VG/IG root pre-nerf has very little counterplay since it’s a 2 second root and usually melee players are the ones who get rooted and since VG/IG is ranged there’s really no counterplay to it once you get rooted (Scream has a very little wind-up to react).
Hatchet root however is more counterable since even if you get stunned and then rooted, you can still fight back since they are melee. You can block or stun them back.
Ye in other MMOs you can also be in a cc chain for 30s which means you need to have means of how to get out of it. There is nothing like CC chains in NW if you compare it to other MMOs. Jees, stuns are not even stuns in NW, they are incapacitates. You cherrypick something from other MMOs but you ignore the whole package.
CCs in NW are a joke in comparison to other MMOs, they are extremely short and limited. So please, don´t come with this “other MMOs” bullshit. 8s sap into 4s re-sap into 8s blind into 5s kidney shot into another sap, just from a single fuckin rogue in WoW, give me a break man, don´t even try to compare NW CC with other MMOs. You can be literally 30s in a cc chain not playing the game in WoW.
This is why GW2’s PvP is so good. There are SO many options for counterplay, but it takes a long time to get comfortable with when to use them and which to take based on who you’re fighting.
Other mmos like wow (I don’t play wow, and don’t care to compare it.) should ALSO have Cc break and immunity for pvp. Some degree of counter play or something. Even wow have a system where break cc, called the trinket system, even blizzard at some degree understand the importance of it. Lets face it, there are other pvp problem new world has, it just not cc. There isn’t any purging potions or or reliable purging skills that let you cleanse your debuff, barely any healing hate beside perks on armor or void gauntlet./hatchet (And the armor perks are hardly worthwhile anyway.) But Crowd control is a HUGE Contributor to the imbalanced in the game, hence why I empathize on it.
Even 2-3 second is enough for people to burst you down and kill you in one second if you’re not getting heals or whatever in this game. And even if you are out of the stun, thanks to the recent changes, you’re going to struggle to get out of range to recover. That’s why people call them burst damage. You’re taking a lot of damage under 2-3 seconds.
And yes, I can compare them to other mmos, because other mmos does it better. Guild wars 2 does it the best. Every class in the game has some degree of self cc break, and debuff purging, and there is a buff called stability that allow you to ignore one stun. A warrior has a passive that let their gap closer break any movement hindering debuffs like slows, or roots, this allow them more options to play with their skills should something happened. If you die to roots or stun, either you wasted all of your skills too quickly, or you didn’t react in time.
In elder scrolls online, you have a dedicated keybind that let you break stun whenever you want in exhange for stamina. Get rooted? You can dodge roll, ect ect. Everything in that game comes down of resource managment, and if you’re bad at it, then you won’t be able to cc break when you need it most.
These two example are reason why people enjoy the pvp in that game. The devs understand that players want to maintain control. Not drop their mouse and raise their hand because they got graved well without warning.
I tried outpost after a month, and it’s awful. People are literally dog piling each other because how imbalanced everything is. Taking away void gauntlet’s ability to remove ground hots was absolutely a atrocious decision. There is no fear to clump together with the enemy and spam all your skills until your team out damage the heals. Had there be counter plays to punish this type of playstyle, we wouldn’t be in this meta.
It also had horizontal progression which NW should’ve gone with for PvP. This game is all about grinding your ass off for gear, not about who is the better player.
