Reverted the make good 90% housing tax reduction (will impact the Live servers only)
I have 1 house right now, and with the GS grind im constantly broke. There are other guys with like 500k cap cash which i don’t understand how. I play for about an hour a day or so… please reconsider this!
There are larger issues at stake. Namely, the fact that housing taxes you pay are paid to the owners of the city and those funds are then used by those companies to do upgrades and pay maintenance, and/or whatever else they want to do. They can’t just cut that down by 90% without seriously impacting the tax revenues to the owning companies, so what they’ve been doing is giving out the 90% discounts to players but still paying the owning companies the full amount…which means, essentially, Amazon has been ‘printing money’ and introducing a bunch of made-up gold to the economy all the time this discount has been running. That’s why you see so many towns at 2% right now; that’s 90% of the previous maximum tax rate. So, companies just raised the rate to the new max and end up getting 10x the gold that players are actually paying.
This leads to inflation of prices. It really needs to end.
The answer is super simple. You make Towns pay taxes and upgrades based on % of income and you cap the profits at 100k/week or so. This way every town has a fighting chance to compete with the big 3, no one abandons a town because it cost to much to run and players aren’t screwed with the return of increased rent…i mean taxes. Which should stay capped at 2%. This also means that towns that are good at defending invasions will actually be rewarded because they can keep their stuff at T5 which will draw more players.
Yup, which I’ve justified in my mind as the makegood to companies (that they never really got if we’re honest). And yes, it was an insanely high makegood for some, we all know that.
So now that’s all done, it should go back, I agree. But what they should do is now change it so the maximum tax is not 20%. 5% max would be much more reasonable. Honesty, 2% felt so fair to me. It was a regular cost, it was a meaningful cost but it was moderately LOW. So 5% would be pretty high and I’d be ok if that was the extreme value and 2.5% would be moderate.
If companies desperately need more (I don’t think they do, if I’m honest) then they should still get a larger value “added” to the tax they gain to compensate. But I look at town statements and it’s obvious to me that the only locations that “needed” this extra bonus were the outlying ones. So I’d suggest they get a “tax relief” tithe that basically keeps their income similar to what is might be now.
EF and WW could survive (on our server at least) with basically zero housing tax, it’s that insane right now.
I don’t know if you are aware of just how little the outlying territories make. I’ve owned Weavers and currently own Cutless and taxes for a moderately upgraded system are already over 100k which is just barely what we are bringing in with the 20% extreme tax crap. Once the taxes revert we will begin to default just like others and chances are we will hit a point where theres no point to upgrade anything. In weavers it actually cost our company 10s of thousands to upgrade just a few stations to T5, we were operating at a huge loss. They make it impossible to compete with the main towns as it is. In a month you’ll start seeing ghost towns again, which is what I assume AGS wants.
to be honest, I do believe the housing taxes should stay the way they are right now. If you go to the governor’s desk, you will see that companies usually make 500k+ gold every week including over 300k+ coins coming just from housing taxes. If you raise housing tax to the original price, those companies will be making a million coins at an ease.
At least right now, the housing tax makes more sense compared to the original price and it is affordable not only for hardcore players but also casuals. If you pay 800+ coins every week for the house, then the house should provide something more valuable than just a couple of slots for chests with a hilarious amount of extra space in the stash, some trophies, or the “recall to house” option. If you check other games, owning a house usually gives you more value compared to this game. Usually, if you own a house, you can at least have waaaaay more extra space in the stash, have crafting stations with no extra expenses for crafting, or any other perks.
The 500k cap guys are in companies that own Winsward and Everfall. They actually have MUCH more gold than that locked up in market buy orders and alts…not to mention piles they sell on RMT sites. The tax system needs a complete revamp to include the complete removal of any player being able to personally withdraw tax revenue to their personal account.
I mean, did you read the rest of the post? Pretty unfair to post that one line, when they go into a lot more detail about other ways they’re reducing housing taxes.
Maybe their solution isn’t perfect, but flat 90% reduction may not be either. Better to present all the facts to form a better dialogue.
No sir. Greedy companies that on average had housing tax set to 5 or 6% suddenly raised them to the max. 100% of companies on every server did this. They completely took advantage of the situation clearly showing they do not have the maturity to handle such a responsibility. The companies are the ones that abused the ‘make good’ to pocket literally millions. The developers that straight up failed to see this would obviously happen are also to blame. The damage is done. Entire conglomerates of companies are all outfitted with bis gear. Shittons of gold has been sold on RMT sites by them. They have more shittons locked away in market buy orders and alts. A drastic and severe change needs to be made. Especially for current owners of Winsward and Everfall.
I just don’t buy any of the arguments based on complaints about ‘greed’. If the company owns the town and you do business in that town, the company gets the money. I don’t care how much money they make or how rich they get as long as that income is directly tied to actual monies paid by players, as opposed to magnifying that with ‘magic Amazon money’.
We need to END the bonus gold going to companies from the housing ‘discount’. Tax scales should also be wider range. I know there are plenty of companies that would love to set a 0% or near zero tax fee if they could for refining for example.
I know of at least one company wants to make a nearly tax free zone where they pay for upkeep from company profits from playing the markets and crafting. Right now they do have the taxes set as low as possible except for housing because it would be rediculous to not take the free gold.
